Northern Emerald (Somatochlora arctica)
Northern Emerald (Somatochlora arctica)

A very scarce species found in SW Ireland and NW Scotland. This is rarest of Ireland's dragonflies with possibly less than 1000 adults each year in only a couple of known sites. The current state of wet heath habitat and threats of encroaching Rhododendron pose a real threat to this species.
