Young Pilot Whale in Portballintrae Bay
Second Live Stranding in a couple of days
Unfortunately news has broken of a second cetacean stranding along the Antrim coast. This very young whale had to be put down yesterday after beaching in Portballintrae. It has apparently been around for almost two weeks, though I only discovered it presence on Saturday when bird watching. The news was kept quiet to prevent undue disturbance to the animal.

This has to be one of the most painful sights I’ve witnessed in nature, but again I hope some good can from the publicity that these wonderful creatures are out there in the seas around us. Over the weekend I observed four species of cetacean within 20 miles either side of home.
